Jarmel Kizel Architects and Engineers Inc. Designs New Restaurant in Livingston, N.J.
LIVINGSTON, N.J. (MARCH 9, 2009) -- Jarmel Kizel Architects and Engineers Inc. has announced that it is providing architecture, engineering and construction contract administration services for Carmine’s Livingston, a new restaurant at 405 Eisenhower Parkway in Livingston, N. J.
The 10,000-square-foot restaurant, which is expected to open in April, will provide authentic Italian food of the highest quality in a classic setting seating 200 diners.
The building has a long history, said Dennis Dubrow, one of the partners in the restaurant. In 1805, the site was the location of a stagecoach stop between Morristown and Paterson. When the railroad came in following the Civil War, the site became the location of a bed and breakfast inn.
The current building dates to the early 20th century, and for 40 years had been the site of Merrigan’s Tavern, a popular local watering hole, which closed seven years ago, Dubrow said. The building has been vacant ever since.
“Jarmel Kizel is proud to play a part in returning a venerable Livingston landmark to active use,” said Matthew B. Jarmel, a principal at Jarmel Kizel, which is based in Livingston. “With its excellent food and reasonable prices, Carmine’s Livingston is bound to be an instant success with diners from Livingston and the surrounding area.”
The restaurant will be the third Carmine’s in New Jersey. The others are Carmine’s Asbury Park at 162 Main St. and Carmine’s Tinton Falls at 5119 Asbury Ave. A fourth restaurant, Mr. C’s, is due to open in the Alphabet City section of downtown Manhattan this month. The chain was started by Chef Carmine Mazzone, originally of Brooklyn.
The restaurant will feature an old New York atmosphere with dark wood paneling and mosaic tile floor coverings. The main dining room will have 24-foot ceilings and red walls, while the bar area will be more casual. A downstairs dining area will feature a pizza oven and an oyster bar. In addition, there will be an outdoor dining area with a grill.
The eclectic menu will be classically Italian and reasonably priced, with all entrees under $30, said Frank Picciolo, one of the owners. The more casual downstairs area will be family friendly, offering sandwiches, burgers and pizza.
“Our aim is to create an environment that’s not intimidating,” he said. “We want an atmosphere that offers something for everyone, including couples and families with children. In today’s economy, we also felt it was important to keep the menu reasonably priced, which is why no entrees will cost more than $30.”
Restaurants are a specialty for Jarmel Kizel, which is one of the state’s largest and most well established architecture and engineering firms, and is known for providing one-stop shopping for architecture, engineering and interior design services. For this assignment Jarmel Kizel employed its expertise in architecture, interior design, mechanical/electrical engineering and site civil engineering design services.
In addition to Carmine’s, Jarmel Kizel is also currently providing architectural and engineering services for the Bocconi Restaurant in Hackensack, N.J., and T.G.I. Friday’s in the Bronx, N.Y., and Compton, Calif.
