Jarmel Kizel Architects 7 Engineers, INC. Celebrates 35th Anniversary
LIVINGSTON, N.J. (September 14, 2010)—Jarmel Kizel Architects and Engineers, Inc., is proudly celebrating its 35th year in business. Since 1975, the firm has weathered three recessions, a change in its business model in the early 90s, and a company name change at the turn the millennium. And every day, founder Marvin Jarmel, continues to walk through the firm’s doors in Livingston, New Jersey, to oversee the business that has grown from an interior office space design firm—which he started in the basement of his home—to one of the region’s most recognized architecture and engineering firms. Over 20 years ago, Marvin’s two sons, Matthew and Richard, and business partner, Irwin Kizel, joined the firm, and since then they have all shared the responsibility of managing and growing the company.
Founded by Marvin Jarmel, the company began as ISS - Interior Space Specialists, Inc. In 1990, the firm welcomed Marvin’s two sons, Matthew B. Jarmel, AIA, MBA, NCARB, a registered architect, and Richard A. Jarmel, PE, NCEES, a professional engineer, who began the firm’s transformation into a general practice of architectural and engineering services. Irwin Kizel, AIA, PP, a licensed architect and professional planner with vast building experience, joined as a principal of the firm shortly thereafter.
“I am very proud of our firm’s success and achievements, and marvel at the thought of being in business for 35 years,” stated Marvin Jarmel. “For three-and-a-half decades our business has reflected changing market conditions and I am grateful for my partners—my sons Matthew and Richard, and Irwin Kizel—for their extreme dedication to their work and providing outstanding services to our clients.”
In March of 2000, to mark the firm’s 25th anniversary and to reflect its broader scope of services, the principals renamed the company Jarmel Kizel Architects and Engineers, Inc. Today, Jarmel Kizel operates seven studios: three architecture studios including corporate interiors, retail roll-out and general practice; three engineering studios including civil, structural and mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection (MEP); and an energy solutions studio, which offers green and sustainable design solutions focused on reducing energy costs and carbon footprints through renewable and alternative energy sources.
“Jarmel Kizel is diverse in the services that we offer and also the business sectors that we serve—and I attribute a great deal of our success in the marketplace to these factors, along with the hard work of our talented staff,” added Matthew B. Jarmel, AIA, MBA. “I look forward to continuing to build upon our business and to the expansion of our new energy solutions studio with the goal of creating energy saving solutions for our clients.”
Jarmel Kizel services the architecture and engineering needs of a myriad of industries including corporate interiors, higher education, child development, retail, multifamily housing and healthcare. Its team of registered architects and professional engineers are collectively registered in 23 states across the U.S.
